IRGANOX 3052 is a reactive hindered phenolic antioxidant containing an acrylate functional group, designed for polymer systems requiring low volatility, low extraction, and long-term thermo-oxidative stability. Unlike traditional phenolic antioxidants, it can participate in polymer networks and reduce migration during processing and service life.
1. SBS & Hot Melt Adhesives
IRGANOX 3052 is widely used in SBS, SIS, SEBS, pressure-sensitive adhesives, and hot melt adhesive formulations. Its reactive acrylate structure helps improve antioxidant permanence while minimizing blooming and volatilization during high-temperature adhesive processing.
In adhesive stabilization systems, it can work together with IRGAFOS P-EPQ to improve thermal processing stability under low-oxygen conditions.
2. ABS & Impact-Modified Plastics
The product is suitable for ABS, HIPS, MBS, MABS, and impact-modified polymer compounds where long-term color stability and resistance to thermal oxidation are required. It helps reduce degradation during extrusion and injection molding.
3. Rubber & Elastomer Applications
IRGANOX 3052 performs well in BR, SBR, EPDM, IIR, and thermoplastic elastomer systems exposed to repeated heat aging conditions. Its low extraction resistance makes it especially useful for automotive and industrial rubber applications.
4. Resin & Tackifier Stabilization
The antioxidant is compatible with hydrocarbon resins, terpene phenolic resins, rosin derivatives, and modified acrylate systems. It improves storage stability and reduces oxidative discoloration in tackifier formulations.
5. Food Packaging & Stretch Film
IRGANOX 3052 has been used in PVC and non-PVC stretch film applications for fresh meat packaging due to its low volatility and excellent stabilization performance in flexible packaging materials.

Q1: Why is IRGANOX 3052 called a reactive antioxidant?
Unlike conventional hindered phenolic antioxidants, IRGANOX 3052 contains an acrylate functional group that can participate in polymer reactions or grafting processes. This helps reduce migration, blooming, and extraction during long-term use.
Q2: Is IRGANOX 3052 suitable for hot melt adhesives?
Yes. IRGANOX 3052 is widely used in hot melt adhesives and pressure-sensitive adhesives because it performs well under high processing temperatures and low-oxygen mixing conditions common in adhesive manufacturing.
Q3: What makes IRGANOX 3052 different from Antioxidant 1010?
Antioxidant 1010 is a traditional high-molecular-weight phenolic antioxidant mainly focused on long-term thermal stabilization, while IRGANOX 3052 offers reactive functionality and lower migration in adhesives and elastomer systems.
Q4: Can IRGANOX 3052 reduce blooming in elastomers?
Yes. Because of its low volatility and extraction resistance, IRGANOX 3052 is often selected for rubber and elastomer formulations where surface blooming and additive migration must be minimized.
Q5: Which polymers are compatible with IRGANOX 3052?
IRGANOX 3052 is compatible with SBS, SEBS, ABS, HIPS, EPDM, BR, SBR, polyolefins, tackifier resins, modified acrylates, polyamides, and engineering plastics.
